'save local copy' stuck at 'Downloading images and saving...'

Have you tried duplicating the file and trying this in a copy? Also I’m always curious, why do you need local copy? Asking because a lot of people use this feature when they don’t really have to.

Yes I also tried duplicating and starting from that. Still the same issue.

And to answer your curiosity, it’s because several people have access to the design, and to keep the integrity of my ‘snapshots’, I also keep local copies just in case people delete or edit the version history, etc… It’s for my personal safekeeping and files management.

Got it. In this case it seems like a bug and probably only Figma support will be able to help. Send a report and a link to the file to Figma support team via the support request form or support@figma.com.

Your use-case makes sense, however both of your points are somewhat wrong (not really wrong, I just don’t know what other word to use here, sorry):

• Version history being edited: you can’t edit it. Even if someone restores an older version, the current one will be saved as a new version and you will be able to restore it easily.
• Safekeeping: keeping .fig files for a long time is not a great idea. They are only good for temporary backups. E.g. files that you saved about 3-4 months ago probably won’t open in the current version of Figma as things get changed and updated. Yes, it probably be ok for a week or even a month, but I won’t advise to keep them for longer than that.

I was having the same issue for an hour, I am not sure what exactly helped, but I created a duplicate file and then I pressed File - Export, there were some alerts regarding the images, I thought maybe it’s the problem and tweaked them with Pixel Perfect plugin. I also checked if all other images were allright (their sizes were ok etc.)

After some time I finally downloaded the file! I don’t know if that’s coincident, but hope it helps!

So today I got the chance to try using the ‘same local copy’ again on the exact same problematic file. Probably Figma finally fixed it. I already got my local copy. I can’t explain how. It worked now. Thanks guys.

I had the same problem, Just restarted the MacBook(Figma/All browser windows) then tried saving Figma file and it worked. So, try to restart the computer clear memory/cache and I hope this will help you.

Aparently, still at this point of the images, you must fix each error in each page (you can check at each page pressing ctrl+shift+E).

After fixing everything, close the file and open it again. Then download it.

At least, that’s what worked for me.

Just encountered the “not downloading issue” on Figma website while editing. So I thought to use the desktop app and give it a try. Well, that worked. Not sure if it’s helpful but that worked out for me. (I think it’s still a bug in Figma.)

Same problem. It always get’s stuck just few items before completion (275/276, 126/150… etc)

Could you try the troubleshooting below?

• Close any Figma tabs you’re not using
• Browser: Force-quit and open Figma in a new browser window.
• Desktop App: Force-quit the Figma Desktop app and restart it. If the issue persists, try clearing the cache.
