Component nesting breaks auto layout

Hi all,
I have a component which uses another component inside, this component is expandable. When I use this component on itself it works as intended but when I try to add this newly created component the expanding of the component does not work, the height stays the same. When I detach the instance of the component the expanding functionality works again… I use auto-layout with hugging heights. I unfortunately can’t upload a video because I’m a new user

Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out! While I haven’t had a chance to check your file, it sounds like this is a known feature limitation for nested instances, where changing variants or swapping instances in nested instances does not update their sizes according to the new selections.

As a workaround, you can enable auto layout on each new variant of your components to allow the nested instances to resize correctly.

I hope it helps, but if I’m misunderstanding the issue, please let me know, and feel free to share your file link with access to support-share@figma.com.

Thanks,
Toku
