Question

Beginner: Masking + Grouping

I am new to Figma. I am trying to make a mock up of a t-shirt.

Everytime I try to create a new mask → the logo of the flower disproportionately misplaces on the screen instead of masking correct with the Group 1 (a t shirt + rectangle).

Any tips?

Hey there, Diana.

I cannot really understand the layers that you are using.

so I’ll come up with names to refer to each one:

the blue T-shirt: masking-shape
the flower: pattern
your actual white Tshirt: item

^
| pattern (your flower should be here)
|
– masking-shape (make it as a mask)

then, you should get a T-shirt-masked flower.

group it and put it on your item (white T-shirt)

you can set all items as “scale vertical/horizontal” if you want to resize it, or either export it as an image and reimport it to make it unified as a single image.

Hi Armin,

Thank you for your comment. Figma restricts my images to 1 when you’re new; but I will try to post the additional images here to showcase the issue.

When I try to group the flower onto the blue t-shirt, it does not group the way it is supposed to.

Image 1: where blue t-shirt becomes blue rectangle when grouped

to be continued…

Here are my layers:

I’m a little confused.

You want your flower get cropped by the shape of the T-shirt, and then put the cropped flower on the white one, am I right?

If so, the second image seems close enough to the answer you just need to adjust your left group above the white TShart and select both element with shoft and group it again.

And, you can also resize the flower if it’s too big. If your problem didn’t solve, share the file and I’ll check it directly.

Hi Armin,

I’m trying to put this flower on top of shirt “Rec 1” as a logo.

I am following a course so I think I can show you what it should look like:…let me know if this clears it up

I can understand what you need as a result but I can’t understand the process you are using. instead of grouping, try to move the layer into the group (make sure they are in the proper order)

1.1- blue rect (behind everything)
1.2- flower (above it)

2- both these 1.1 and 1.2 inside the Rec1 (Tshirt) mask

however the blue rect seems only to make your mask more visible, so you adjust your flower better, then, you can remove it.

I’m not sure if it helps but this was all I could do 😅
