Question

Stuck old color style

I have changed the name of a color style in my Figma file, but for some reason when I view the style in dev mode, it’s still stuck on the old name. I deleted the style and updated it again, it didn’t help. I have checked if I still have the instances in my file with the old color style name, but that didn’t help either - whenever I use this color style, it’s still stuck on the old name only in dev mode. I’m not sure how to fix the problem. A
ny help is much appreciated.

Hey there, could you send me a copy of your file via DM please?

Hi, did you manage to fix this problem, since I have a similar one?

I have renamed the color in the design system a few months ago, and now I noticed that some developers with view permissions have the old color name on some components (not on all). It is strange because the same component on different screens will show the different color name (on one screen the color name will be right while on other screen the color name will be the old one).

Hi there,

Thanks for getting in touch. I just wanted to clarify, has the file displaying the old color names been updated yet? Once the original style names have been modified, one of our editors can approve the update.

If the update has been done correctly, would you mind sharing the file link with me via direct message?

Thanks!
Toku

Thanks Toku for the reply!

So the old color name appears only on some screens for the developers with the view permission. For me, with the edit permission, all color names are correct in color styles and in all components using that color style. I have no trace of the old (renamed) color name like they have. I have published and updated the files several times since then.

I have to check with others from my company if I can share the files. Would you need edit or view permissions, since the behavior is different like I’ve mentioned?

Sorry the late response! Instead of sharing in our DM, you can just ask our support team at https://help.figma.com/hc/en-us/requests/new. The link is the official support. Please make sure you use the email associated with your Figma account, include links to the file in question, and share edit access with support-share@figma.com. Don’t worry, inviting us to view your file won’t impact your billing.

Thanks,
Toku

Hi, I have resolved the issue with your amazing support team, big thanks to all of you!

In case anyone encounters this issue, what did the trick was:
→ making some color changes to the master components (the ones that were showing the old color name that doesn’t exist anymore), publish + update the files, and then setting the right color again to the master components, publish + update. After that the old color name disappeared, and all changes were propagated successfully.
It appears that there was no issue with the color itself, but with the preview of some components (which showed the old color name on some screens - not on all) for persons with view permissions.
