I subscribed to the Professional Collab seat. My email, my name, my Figma account, my team, my project, yet everytime I want to create a design file it has “request” beside it and I can’t edit design files. It says “I can only view and comment on this file - ask to edit”. Why do I need to ask permission to myself?! And eveytime I send a request to myself the notification says “requested.seat.full seat.my team - adds 1 seat at $16/month”!

How can I fix this?

Hi @Roland Mari Ferre, thanks for reaching out!

A Figma collab seat gives you:

  • Full access to Figma Slides and FigJam.
  • View and comment access in Figma Design files

You are seeing “request” because you actually need a Full seat to create design files. A full seat gives full access to all Figma products, including Figma Design, Dev Mode, Figma Slides, and FigJam. We’re not able to assist with Billing here on the forum, but please reach out to our support team who can help switch your seat type: https://help.figma.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

hi
What doesn’t make sense to me is that in the free version, you can give editing access to any number of people for free, but in the professional version, this requires an additional cost. Shouldn’t it be the case that by purchasing the professional version, access to these services would be easier than in the free version?

Hi @The Right, thanks for your follow up question!

To help clarify, while users can create Figma draft files with a Starter team or a Collab seat, sharing/moving a draft file for editing requires a paid seat. On a Starter team, in particular, users can only invite collaborators to files in their drafts with Can view access. If they want to invite collaborators to their files with edit access, they’ll also need to upgrade to a paid plan.

You can read all about Starter plan permissions here.
