Useless update! I can’t imagine anyone rotating more than moving layers up and down in the list??
I thought I was going crazy. This changed exactly 2 days ago for me. I’ve been using CMD+OPT+Up/Down for years to move layers up and down and all of sudden it’s swapped to rotate. Please revert! Or allow us to choose which behavior we want.
You are not alone.
Follow this topic. some more info can be found there:
And they are already promoting it, even made a video. Maybe we can reach out to them and make them roll back this "accessibility" update. I can't imagine that anyone requested the shortcut to rotate an object by 1 degree.
Plz change back!!
Have been CMD+OPT+Up/Down for years!
I have on US keyboard and the other supposedly working shortcut doesn’t for me.
OMG, I can no longer move layers up or down in the layer stack without needing to manually locate it in the layer panel now. It’s awful and time consuming and breaks my flow state.
Please change it back.
Bring back the moving the layer up down to CTRL + ALT + Up/Down. you know why is is it so bad? A few reasons:
• Muscle memory of years in the workflow as a designer is broken.
• ] [ are in the middle of the keyboard, not at the bottom of the keyboard. Buttons on the bottom of the keyboard are easier to access and identify.
• Before, an up arrow lifts a layer up, a down arrow lowers a layer down. Now? It's right and left.
• There was no indication of an update or change, it just happened without telling anyone.
• The article also doesn't say anything except a link to "We changed the keyboard a bit", and when you go to the second article, this change is also not shown there.
• You were wrong. This abbreviation, according to you, was not used much, but the people on their forums argue with Figma that they do.
• It is not possible, at all, to change keyboard shortcuts in Figma.
• Now, the old shortcut just rotates the selection to the right or left (with an up or down arrow) by a few degrees. Not intuitive.
Of course, I think accessibility is an important issue, and the choice to change some processes and design to make it easier to use Figma with only a keyboard may be a little strange to designers, but legitimate. From here to completely unilaterally changing a feature that is being used without updating, that's another story.
Hey All, thank you for your feedback!
We completely understand how unexpected changes like this can be frustrating, especially when they disrupt your current workflow. I’ve updated this topic into a feature request and sent your feedback with our product team to ensure they’re aware of how these updates are now affecting your workflow. This is helpful for us to better understand the issue and evaluate next steps.
We’ll continue monitoring this thread and keep the feedback loop open with the product team. In the meantime, the new keyboard shortcuts for this: Cmd/Ctrl + ] and Cmd/Ctrl + [ will allow you to reorder layers
Lastly, we plan to keep the Accessibility at Figma article in Figma Learn updated as new information and shortcuts become available. Thanks again for your understanding and for taking the time to surface this.
Hi everyone,
I know change is never easy.
That said, this one has been particularly challenging for me coming from France. I use an AZERTY keyboard. To type [ or ], I already need to use a shortcut (Option + Shift + 5), so at the moment I don’t have a workable solution. I’ve been resorting to manually dragging and dropping in the layer window, which is quite cumbersome.
I really hope we’ll be able to customize or adjust this shortcut soon.
Thanks for understanding!
