Renaming Colors in Figma Slides

Currently not a way to rename colors in Figma slides with the library feature. Is there a way to do this that I don’t know about? It would be tedious to re-add a color with the appropriate name because I would have to reassign all components to the newly named color.

Second this. I can’t seem how to rename colours or effectively use our existing design system colours without the need to create a new colour style. Is it not possible just to link the colour styles from a design system to a template instead of having to create new colour/text styles for that template?

Yes! I wish I could just link the styles to our existing design system. It would be so much more convenient and faster to design slides.

Hey All, thanks for the feedback!

We’ll pass this feedback onto the Slides team for future consideration.

Not being able to rename colors is absolutely bonkers

Color management in Slides is really bad.

Yes it is, at this point color style management is my biggest gripe with Slides. Creating color styles is convoluted, editing them is convoluted, and you can’t seem to change the order in which they appear in the styles list.

I’m not sure what’s going on with the user experience of editing Figma Slide templates.

But it’s frankly the worst part of Figma’s UI. The inconsistent editing and organization of colors and fonts in the “Template Style” is just the tip of the iceberg. You had it all: there was a great UI for organizing local variables and font styles. I really wonder why the team decided to ignore all existing Figma features and come up with a half-baked new solution instead.

Conway’s Law, I guess.

P.S. You “rename” colors by creating new ones and removing the old ones.

Some feature requests:

  • Rename Slides
  • Rename Colors
  • Use Local Variables for Colors
  • Either completely hide all libraries (and references to them) or fully support them when picking colors.
