Font Weight in Numbers on the Design Panel

Fernando_Lins

Currently Figma only shows font weights as Thin, Regular, Medium, Bold, Black, etc. on the Design Panel, and you can only see the actual value of the weight in the inspect panel, but it would speed up design spec work and documentation work a lot if in the Design panel, next to each weight it also showed the value for that weight, as in Thin (100), Regular (400), Medium (500), Bold (600), and so on, as it is what tokens should use and developers would implement most often.

Would be most useful. Landed here trying to find out whether it was possible already.

Daniel_Ortiz_Flores

Absolutely!! Totally agree with this suggestion m. We need to define typography weights variables in numbers.

Tony_Rudolph

Our developers also prefer this instead of the naming of the font weight.

Is it possible to display the font weight number and font name?
(Regular +400)

I don’t think it’s available at the moment. If it’s a variable font, the weight in number will be shown in the settings modal:

But, the number is not shown the right panel like this:

Thanks for the feedback!

Could really use this.

Currently switching between two fonts depending on locale (successfully using variables!). However, one has weights such as regular, medium, semi-bold, bold etc. and the other has W0-9, so they can’t share weight variables.

Despite this, on the web, we use numerical (100-900) values for font weight, and they behave well.

Adding support for numeric font weights would add a lot of value to variables imo.

Adding another vote for this feature. Developers use numbers for weight, not names. This is actually impacting our ability to accurately represent reality in our Figma designs.

Adding another vote. It is a limitation. Strongly agreeing with Mike_Turanio.
