Exporting at 2x is only changing resolution and not dimensions

I have tried several times to figure out why 2x is only changing the pixel density from 72 to 144, but not adjusting the dimensions of the image. 3x exporting seems to work just fine. This is causing issues for our development team who has repeatedly been requesting help the past week in exporting new image assets as they can not get the correct resolution themselves.

I’ve had other designers attempt to get a correct 2x export with the same issue.

Can someone please help?

Having the same problem

Hi there!
Thanks for reaching out to the community.

I try to replicate and it works on my end when I export an image x2 :

Does your image became smaller when you export? If so, for your reference, this may happen because Figma downsizes images with a width or height larger than 4096 pixels
This scales the image’s original dimensions proportionally, so the longest edge is less than 4096 pixels.
This is described in more detail here: Add images to design files.

If you’d like to create frames with 2x or 3x the size of this frame, we’d suggest to manually Resize layers with the scale tool.

Let me know if this helps! We can’t have access to the file, can you give a can edit access to ‘Anyone with the link’? If you are hesitant to share it publicly, i’d suggest you to reach out and include a link to the file, and share it with support-share@figma.com: here They can have a deeper look at it!

I figured it out. The issue is the suffix name @2x. When I change the suffix name to anything else it fixes it.
