Did Figma changed the prototype limitation from frame to everything?

I used to only able to make prototype link to only frame level, now I am can add link to, let’s say, the background image of the frame…I can see why how this is useful… but what if in some scenario, I only want my previous screen link only to my next frame instead of the specific elements of it??
The issue now is that it is really hard to link to the screen… it always points to the element inside of that frame…
