For some reason I can no longer duplicate one of my files in Figma.
This initially happened when I created a new branch within the file; so I assumed you can’t duplicate a file whilst it has a branch open.
I closed the branch and was able to duplicate the file again. For some reason it recently stopped letting me duplicate it again and I can’t figure out why.
We used this file as a starting point for many projects so it’s essential that we can duplicate it.

One reason why you’re not seeing the “Duplicate” option on a file with branches could be that you’re looking at a branch of that file. The option to duplicate is available on the main file. When you have files with branches please check and see if you’re on the main file, not the branch, and see if you can duplicate the file.
You’ve mentioned your file does not have branches anymore and and you’re not able to duplicate it. Are you seeing this issue in the browser and the desktop app?
Can you please try the following workaround?
You can also duplicate a file by adding /duplicate
to the end of the file. This only works when you are viewing the full file URL.
If you have a specific frame or layer selected, Figma will add an ID for that node to the URL. For example: ?node-id=21%3A0
. You need to remove any node id’s before adding /duplicate
to the file’s URL.

as you can see there are definetely no active branches for the file.
I’m not able to duplicate it on the app or on the browser. Your workaround did work however, but I’d rather not have my team need to rely on something like that.
Any other ideas?

I’m actually not sure why you’re not able to duplicate the file on the normal method. I’ve just created a support ticket on your behalf, so our team can take a look on what’s causing this. Your ticket number is #1150382, for reference.
