create your own manually. The Figma slot solution feels wonky as anything and does not give the control you need. It is overblown and trying to do too much shich causes things to get mixed up. I tried the beta. I’m not gonna use Figma slots. My own component library and manual slot management is much stronger.

This is also why you have not seen it launched.
Okay, thanks for the information. We are today using our own solution with a placeholder as a component but the truth is that it’s working super well either as it resizes in strange, unpredictable ways. I was hoping the slots were working better but if it’s not I guess that is the reason why they haven’t released it. Thanks for your answer.

Hi Lucas,
can you elaborate on what exactly it is that is overblown and getting mixed up? And what do you mean by “not giving you any control”? I would assume the control to restrict whatever goes inside a slot, or am I mistaken?
Right now I don’t use the hacky-workarounds with instance-swapping and don’t plan to because there is no obvious added value when slots will come out for the public. That’s why I wanted to ask the first question of what problems you encountered that made you decide against the slots.
For me, if I can put whatever I want within a component instance (= the slots as advertised) and the performance is bearable, that is all I need and I’ll definitely use the slots. I am a solo designer and I don’t really need control over other peoples work (aka. restricting whatever goes in which slot component)
