We used to be able to hide only the left panel. Why would you remove that.

Hey @Preston,

The team decided to pull it in favor of minimizing the UI, which is similar in that it hides the left panel while still giving you access to properties when an object is selected.

In UI3, if you’ve minimized your UI, you just need to select something on your canvas to make the right panel appear again. The left panel will remain hidden.

I get the rationale, but having the right sidebar constantly appear and disappear when selecting and deselecting items is really jarring. It also removes quick access to the Variables button, which I rely on heavily (only shows when nothing is selected).

The Toggle Variables menu item doesn’t have a shortcut, and using Actions (from the Toolbar or Cmd+K) adds extra steps—I still have to type a few characters to get it.

Personally, I’d love the ability to show or hide the right sidebar independently of the left navigation panel. I frequently need one without the other, depending on my workflow.

@djv Could you please ask the team to reconsider?

I’m about to release a large plugin that makes most of the right sidebar obsolete. It’d be really nice to get that screen real estate back and it’d take a dev an hour to code/test this.

  • Add ctrl+shift+9 to toggle left sidebar
  • Add ctrl+shift+0 to toggle right sidebar
  • You can leave ctrl+shift+\ exactly how it is
  • If someone toggles either sidebar, add that drawer icon so they know how to restore

0 effort, easy community win, doesn’t step on anyone’s toes.

If you want to keep ctrl+shift+9 | 0 open for future features, I wouldn’t care if the shortcut was even more obscure and can offer a ton of suggestions.

Thank you.

I do not need both sides of the navigation panels often when im working. This takes up critical screen space. Let me hide one or both of these not just hide all - Even on a large screen this is a hassle let alone if Im just working on my laptop and not using a second monitor

(BOTH for slides & the figma design areas)
