How can I import a Figma Make file into another Figma Make file?

Hi! I’ve created a dialog component in one Figma Make file and I want to use it in another file.
What’s the best way to import or copy it over? Should I copy-paste it manually or is there a better way to reuse components across files in Figma Make?

Hi @L.L.T, thanks for reaching out! I can totally see how being able to reuse components across Figma Make files would be super helpful, especially for something like a dialog component.

Right now, the best way to move content between Figma Make files is to copy and paste manually. That said, I’ve passed your feedback along to the team.

Really appreciate you taking the time to share your feature request with us. Let me know if there’s anything else I can help with!

Figma Make doesn’t support importing or linking components between files. You can manually copy and paste frames or components, but they won’t stay connected or auto-update. To reuse components across files, use Figma Design with Libraries (available on paid plans). Make is meant for isolated prototypes, not shared systems. For better reusability, build in Design first, then move to Make for AI-driven apps or prototypes.

You can’t directly import one Figma file into another—use Copy/Paste between files or publish components/styles to a library and reuse them in the other file

@Gayani_S 1 month passed, what’s the current status, whether this future has be added? Since my project is big and I can’t make all the design in one File and I need multi design at the same time, when I tried to merge them and import a customized Figma Make File to the main one, while it can’t analyze the link correctly and always show me the default library snapshot, shown as the following snapshot:

Hey everyone — Tom here, stepping in for @Gayani_S today. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this. I’ve surfaced your insights and highlighted how this type of improvement could make workflows smoother. While I don’t have a timeline to share on when this import functionality may be available, our product team is actively tracking feedback like this and iterating based on your experience. We’ll be sure to update this thread if anything changes.

Also, @JannaShi, your situation reminds me of a resource that may help in the meantime. Take a look at the third tip in this guide: 8 essential tips for using Figma Make → 3. Break down complex projects into manageable steps. It could be a useful way to approach your project until a more direct solution becomes available. If that does not help, we’d be happy to take a closer look at the file and address the unexpected default library behavior. For a deeper dive, share the file with our Technical Quality team by filling out this form and include:

  • a link to the file where this is happening
  • ‘can edit’ access granted to support-share@figma.com for the impacted file
  • a screen recording showing the issue in action.

Again, thank you for your feedback and your patience. 🙏🏻

Thanks Tom so much for your reply, I checked the link that you shared, it helps but it can’t resolve the current problem, I will contact the Technical Quality team and seek their support

My team is also facing significant challenges for this type of workflow. One of the great things about figma / figma make is the ability to collaborate. Make is amazing now and we are using it to accelerate our designs dramatically, but when collaborating or dividing feature design assignments among team members, the inability to stitch them together for a whole experience prototype without a lot of rework is a bit frustration. Thanks for the responses and thank you to the creator of this thread!
