Organization would be immensely helpful if we could create folders for our drafts. I want to be able to organize my drafts into different categories (such as UI kits, Ideas, Wireframe kits, iOS, Android, etc…) so I can find files easily. Right now, the drafts page is a huge jumbled mess and I can’t create Team pages for everything.

Maybe something as simple as being able to add ‘tags’ to each file, similar to Zeplin.

Such an incredible basic feature, yet they refuse to implement it, even when the users strongly voice they need it. So ironic that the software is used for UX work, yet they will not implement such a critical part of the user experience themselves.

Guess our drafts are just supposed to be a giant, unorganized mess…

+1 For this feature. It will organize our draft files.

+1 and not just in drafts. Being able to place files in folders within a project would be fantastic.

My small team has so many files and it’s hard to keep track of them. I would love more than one level of folder support to organize them in Figma – similar to a Google drive approach where you can create folders inside a folder.

Figma, please make it possible to create sub-folders within projects! Figma is great for my small design studio except when it comes to this. Ideally, we would have one team for all of our projects and each project would have its own subfolders like Discovery, Visual Assets, and Design Explorations each with their own files. We have tried every workaround we can but they do not work well. PLEASE add this feature!!

+1 for all folders / teams / drafts. For our use case something like a tagging system would be real helpful. Things are organized by products, then modules in the product. We really could use one more layer of information for version of the product the design was for. Tags feel like a great solution to set up a 2 dimensional organizational structure.

Agreed, I have two markets to address so whilst both products are in the same vertical (Project) and share a design system & many local components, their UX/UI iterations, comms, regulatory approvals are all separate so it’d be nice to be able to file them under US / UK folders rather than name each folder UK MVP, US MVP etc.

I am desperate for this feature now!! Come on Figma 😦 give us folders!

Following for this feature addition, I would love a subfolder or tags feature, please! We have hundreds of files that need to be organized.

No they aren’t lol. We have tried everything in our project and we just need folders.

Organization → Team → Project → Folders / Files → Page

2 years and still no solution? Its almost like Figma got the adobe treatment 😅

I don’t see why this request has been ignored / backlogged for 2 years. It would be IMMENSELY helpful for all users regardless of scope. I can see the motivation for not making it available for free account (even though it is very much compromising usability), but also no for paid professional accounts? I am genuinely confused.

I believe there should be a way to organize your files so that its not just a mess. Everything gets mixed up and the longer it takes the worse it gets. There should be the ability to create folders and subfolders in your drafts to be able to organize your ideas and prevent you from losing your creativity. The lack of this option has a great impact on creativity, time efficiency, and an overall organized workplace.

I seriously cant believe how something like that isn’t available in Figma. I imagined being one of the most used platforms for designing and such would have something as basic as that… but I am honestly not sure how its been this long and no one has thought of doing it. I saw so many people complaining about this and nothing… It gets harder and harder the more u work, it comes to the point where u just want to clean everything up and start fresh because the lack of literally any organization options.

I hope this issue doesn’t stay unnoticed for longer than it already has.
I appreciate everything Figma has done and is doing but i just cant get over this one thing, and thanks for your time.

What door do I need to bang on to get this done? This is ridiculous!!!

It will so useful to have a way to group files on the project view.
So that, we could have something like:

[Project View]

Group 1

[g1-file1]
[g1-file2]

Group 2

[g2-file1]
[g2-file2]

Thanks in advanced

Create folders within a project for better file organization

I would really like to see this functionality implemented. There are many reasons why this would be beneficial. For one, it would greatly improve the user experience, making it easier for people to use and navigate the system. Additionally, it could lead to increased productivity, as users would be able to accomplish tasks more efficiently. All in all, there are many compelling reasons why this feature should be a top priority for the development team.

I would also switch sides, but Figma is gradually taking a very large chunk of the market. I really love the Adobe ecosystem, but sometimes I have to use other products.
And each update looks very strange when such seemingly simple functions are still not available, or are available for a fee.

At this point, I don’t even really care how this would be implemented (could be folders, could be sections), but our team really needs this - or a better than current situation - feature to organise our files more efficiently.

I really do not understand why this still isn’t a thing.

Why is this not a thing yet?? Highly disappointing. This thread has been running since almost the past 3 years. @Figma where you at?

For large organizations, there needs to be a better way to organize files within projects/teams. It would be great if you were able to create more (maybe up to a certain limit, or heck unlimited!) levels/sub-levels (folders, workspaces, sub-projects, whatever) so that things can be grouped more logically. For instance, within a workspace/team, there may be multiple channels or capabilities. It’d be helpful to be able to group files/projects within them by release, or feature. That way, things like figjams or prototype/testing files or other resources can all be kept together and controlled (i.e view/edit access for these deeper levels).

Agreed, my whole team finds the file browser confusing. For me it’s not always hierarchical - sometimes it’s confusing to the team because internals, partners, and externals have different permissions and see different views. I’d like to see tagging so that files and projects can be members of multiple groups, and they can so be organized and navigated to according to how the team uses the material.

YES, right now I have my “projects” as Product verticals (web app, mobile app, consumer vs. provider sides), then each file (feature or major project) each with a cover photo signifying if it’s In Dev, Complete, Archived, etc… but then when I want to update that feature within a new page on the file, I don’t have a good way of saying, "Well, part of this file is complete because it’s old, but now I’ve added a new thing to this feature, and now it’s no longer “complete”, but rather "currently in “WIP” status.

Just having more depth to file organization & structure would be super helpful!

Please please please just make this happen already.

It’s already nearly 2024.

Can I see the folder feature of Figma at the Config conference in June 2024? This feature was proposed as early as 2021.
