This problem counteracts the basic idea if making things clearer for developers. This statement is based on valid feedback from our devs.

I wonder what was the reasoning behind NOT allowing users to move annotations in the workspace… I need to create a screen flow with annotations and I can’t use arrows and such because the annotations are fixed. so annoying

Yes, the same way we can move linked containers with their connections in Figjam would be optimal.

Certainly, the annotations are overlapping the content.

Love annotations, hate auto-positioning. Great idea, genuinely stupid oversight. How to fuck up a good idea in one easy step.

+1 - Please, asap, I want to continue using the Figma Annotation instead of using my own annotation comp but overlapping things is not helping.

+1. This seems such a huge oversight and means I have to keep using a 3rd party plugin as that lets me decide which side of the frame to put the annotation.

Let’s give this a bump. I kind of understand why they made the positioning automatic but at least let’s us pick left or right or top / bottom. 8-)

Just went searching for this! They keep covering my designs I have to move designs so they don’t overlap. I think they are a great feature and I love how you can add the component features as a list easily just let me move them out the way! You can’t then disconnect and attach anywhere I have to copy paste my comment then create a new annotation on a different part of the frame just to keep it out the way of the next design. Frustrating!!

Just started using annotations, wild that you can’t reposition them! I imagined it would be similar to figjam arrows where you can reposition both the start and the end. In addition to what others have said - If I place a notation and fill it out, but see that it’s ‘coming off of’ the wrong element I want to be able to adjust which element the annotation card is attached to.

I agree; I like when:

  • If a frame is selected, only show annotations for that frame.
  • If nothing is selected, show all annotations.

Echo-ing what others have shared here for months at this point. This feature has the potential to make developer handover so smooth, but I’ve heard from multiple engineers that it currently gets in the way too often.

This feature is basically unusable until we have the option to stop them blocking other important elements

When adding an annotation, it’s automatically positioned on the right, which sometimes overlaps with the next screen.
It would be great if, during annotation editing, we could also choose the direction of the callout.
For example, it would be useful to orient it from the top or bottom instead of always defaulting to the right.
