Question

Issues loading prototypes on Android

CJ Montalbano

Our UXR team has noticed an increasing issue with loading prototypes on Android devices. Are certain devices more susceptible to this issue? Sometimes refreshing the prototype once resolves the problem, but other times the prototype either fails to load entirely or crashes. Are there any recommended optimizations, or have others experienced this issue?

+1 - Just had a session with a participant on an Android TCL device and we could not get the prototype to load. Had to cancel the session. It wasn’t a complex prototype either.

Hey everyone, thanks for flagging this! Unfortunately, I don’t have an Andriod to to test this out myself. However, if you’re able to share your prototype link and invite  support-share@figma.com, our team can test this out and investigate whats causing the loading issue. Please note that users with @figma.com emails on your team do not count towards your billing.

In the meantime I’d appreciate it if you could confirm the following:

  1. Do you also see the same problem at www.figma.com/mirror or when viewing the file in your mobile browser, or is it specific to the mobile app?
  2. Do you see the same problem on an alternate network, like a mobile hotspot?
  3. Do you see the same after deleting the app, restarting your device to clear the cache, and then installing the app again?
  4. Can you provide a quick screen recording demonstrating the issue?

Thank you for your help!

Hi Gayani,

Unfortunately, I’m not able to share the prototype with anyone outside of the org. I’ll see if we can make an exception. During the testing, there were times where the participants were able to open it in the browser fine. We did not test with /mirror. From my experience, its really just with the app. The participants were mostly on Wi-Fi. We didn’t try deleting, but these were fresh installs. The screenshot I sent is what it looks like.

We send the participants the figma link via Zoom chat. They click it, it opens Figma, but just never loads.
