Hello Figma team,

I’m experiencing an access issue. In order to edit a file, the platform requires me to confirm whether I’m a student or an educator. However, the only option it gives me is to pay for a subscription.

This project was originally linked to an educational program, but it was never actually developed under that condition. Now, the platform is charging me for subscriptions that don’t make sense, since this status no longer applies.

The most critical part is that, because of this limitation, I can’t even edit files shared by others, which is disrupting my work.

Please verify my account status and remove this restriction so I can continue using the platform normally, without incorrect charges.

Thank you in advance for your support, and I look forward to your response.

Best regards,

Hi @Mateus Bino, thanks for reaching out in Figma Forum. I’m really sorry to hear about the trouble with your account access and the disruption with your project.

Just to clarify, are you using Figma as a student or as an educator? The verification requirements differ depending on your role and institution. As part of the recently updated Education verification process, here’s how it works now:

  • Bootcamps → Students and educators can no longer self-verify. Bootcamp admins need to apply as a trusted partner and verify participants on their behalf.
  • High school → You’ll need to log in with your school email and re-verify at https://www.figma.com/education/apply.
  • Higher education → Re-verification is also required at https://www.figma.com/education/apply. Verification is now handled through SheerID.

For more details, you can check out the Figma for Education guide: Figma for Education.

If this doesn’t clear things up — or if you’ve already tried verification but are still running into issues — please reach out to education@figma.com. With that, a team member will be able to take a closer look at your account settings and help ensure you have the right access. And of course, feel free to circle back here if anything else comes up!

Hello,

Did you read it?
It's blocked.
It forces me to answer the options listed there.
I'm not one of the options. Then it forces me to pay.

Nothing more than that. There's no other option.
It just stays that way.

It's important to consider a flaw in your system.

I'm not seeking access as an educator or a student.

I'm just trying to remove the block that came out of nowhere. Like in the photo.

He asks me to confirm if I am.
I'm not!
And there's no option.
And he claims I'd have to pay (because he understands I've been using it all this time).

As I said, the system keeps changing all the time, and now he's making me feel like I've cheated the system.

I just understood that I could open a project (with this profile), but as I said, it didn't go through.

And now I can't unlock it; it forces me to answer the closed options or pay. This makes no sense.

Hi @Mateus Bino — thanks for reaching out, and I’m sorry for the confusion. I’m not able to access account-specific details here, but it sounds like your account was previously verified as a student account if you’re seeing that verification prompt. If continuing with a student account isn’t the right fit, or if the banner is still blocking your work, please contact our Product Support team directly. A team member will be able to take a closer look at your settings and help get this sorted.

Hi @Tom Reem

I jump into this conversation since I’m stuck between Figma support and SheerID right now. I’m an educator and Admin at at small school in Sweden. We have been using Figma since 2020 with the education account but now when asked to re-verify our accounts our school is no longer eligible. We have hade almost annual problems with getting Figma to ”recognise” us but it’s always been solved. But we have never been able to see our school in the list of schools. Now we have until sept 29 to re-verify but Figma support asks us to contact SheerId and Sheer tells us to contact Figma. We try to verify as Higher Ed but is that wrong. What is Bootleg? Could you please help us - we would be much obliged!

Hi @Leif Stålhammar — thank you for letting me know, and I’m really sorry to hear about the back-and-forth you’ve had to navigate here. I’ll make sure your experience is passed along to the right folks on our side.

For your privacy, I can’t share account-specific details here, but I do see that our Product Support team is reviewing your case (ID: 1506243). In the meantime, I’d also recommend reaching out directly to our Figma for Education team at education@figma.com — they’ll have the full picture of your verification status and can guide you on the best next steps.

Hi and thanks. I’m in contact with the education support as well but this far our problems are not solved unfortunately. Some of my students were from yesterday not any longer  able to access the files we should be working on. But anyway - thanks.
