Question

Share prototype popup gets randomly shown on public links

alexljamin

I am creating public prototype links to be shared outside of my organisation. All the links have the same setup:

  • disabled Figma shortcuts
  • hidden hints on click
  • hidden Figma UI
  • no password
  • anyone can view
  • viewers cannot copy, share, and export from this file

When a person from outside of organisation opens the link the first thing they see is the popup shown below.

There is no correlation to the browser being used or OS. It happens randomly.

Example Figma prototype link - https://www.figma.com/proto/eXa4qnUqNdA6XKVO93RLXg/CoP-user-testing?page-id=0%3A1&node-id=7-2708&viewport=1138%2C-447%2C0.16&t=cYikzwSTKj2ld9dE-8&scaling=scale-down&content-scaling=fixed&starting-point-node-id=7%3A2708&show-proto-sidebar=1&disable-default-keyboard-nav=1&hotspot-hints=0&hide-ui=1&share=1

There are no visible error messages.

What are the reproduction steps?

Open the prototype link in the browser. The popup automatically appears.

Specify which Figma product this issue/bug refers to - you can use the tags for that too

Figma prototyping feature

Is this issue happening in a specific browser, desktop app or both?

The issue is only happening in the browser. Reported to be only in Google Chrome but when testing with other browsers it cannot be reproduced.

What OS, desktop app version and/or browser version are you using?

macOS X with Google Chrome

Out of the troubleshooting checklist there is nothing applicable as it is the issue with the generated prototype links viewed by non-Figma users in the browser.

Any advice on how this popup can be disabled will be highly appreciated.

Hi @alexljamin , Thank you for reporting this issue and for your troubleshooting efforts.

I have verified that clicking the link you provided displays the "Share this prototype" modal, as shown in your screenshot.

However, when the page is reloaded or the link is opened in an incognito window, the modal no longer appears. After looking at how the links change, it could be that the "&share=1" part of the link is what causes the modal to appear.

Perhaps you could try removing the "&share=1" parameter from the link to see if the shared prototype still works as you expect?

If you're still running into trouble, I'd suggest contacting our support team for further assistance. In that case, please refer to this guide: Submit a bug report

I hope this information is helpful. Thank you again for reaching out.

Hey @Junko3

I have noticed that “share=1” parameter in the URL as well. It is not something I have manually added but rather it was automatically appended during the creation of the prototype URL. There is no control around triggering this sharing option.

While it is not a big issue to remove one parameter from one URL when creating 10s of prototypes for various user studies it becomes quite of the problem.

I have submitted the bug report. Hopefully there can be some solution around this.
