Within the past couple of weeks, I’ve had two design files where portions have started breaking, for lack of a better term.

  • As you zoom in on the affected sections of the design, it blows up into square grid pieces over and over, rendering it unusable.
  • This behavior does not affect the entire file, only parts of it.
  • Some portions look/behave fine when zoomed in, but the affected portions do not. I work with two designers, and this only happens with one of them (so far, at least).
  • I’m on Windows 11, designers on Macs. Latest release of Figma for everyone.

What is going on?!

What happens when I zoom into a design

Hi @Nate Y, thanks for flagging this!

Since this is only happening in two files, more specifically only parts of the files, and you have one designer experiencing the same issue, would you be able to share a link to the file with us? If so, please provide the link in this thread and add edit access to support-share@figma.com.

This will help us determine if the issue is more specific to your computer/device or the file(s).

Ugh, unfortunately I’m not able to provide access to either of these files.

I should also clarify that I’m the only one encountering this issue so far, but it’s only happening on files that one designer is working on.

@dvaliao Update: This keeps happening to any file that is updated. I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Windows desktop app with no luck. However, I’ve discovered that all files work just fine for me if I use Figma in-browser instead of the app.

Thanks for the additional context, @Nate Y

That’s interesting that it’s only happening in the desktop app. We’ll flag this over to our technical quality team to advise with the original screen recording, since you can’t share file access.

I’ll follow up once I have any guidance from the team.

Hey @Nate Y, thanks for your patience!

Our technical quality team thinks this may have to do with your graphics drivers. As a first step, check that your graphics drivers are up to date. You’ll want to check for any pending Windows updates for your hardware configuration, integrated graphics, etc. Then, be sure to do a fresh restart before attempting to use the desktop app again.

Let us know how it goes!

@dvaliao That was it! I didn’t have any pending updates anywhere but when I manually checked in the Nvidia app, there was an update, and it fixed my issues. Thank you!
