We have an issue when attempting to add external team members to our connected project. Both organisations are on a paid plan and have a connected project setup. The external team member attempting to add, is part of the connected organisation.

However, when attempting to add an external member to the connected project they are restricted saying they need to be part of the host organisation.

Hi @MichaelBeesley ,

I understand you’re seeing the following message when trying to add an external member to a connected project:

“We've sent the invite to [email], but they'll need to request access to the [organization] before they can access this project. We’ll connect them with an admin who can help.”

If the invited user belongs to one of the teams or organizations connected to the project but still receives this message, it’s likely that they don’t have a seat that allows them to work within the connected project.

To edit a file in a connected project, a user needs both the appropriate seat and “can edit” file permissions.

You can learn more about this in the Guide to sharing and permissions

One thing you can check is what type of seat the invited user currently has in their external team or organization.

I’d also recommend reviewing this guide for more details on the different possible seat scenarios:

How seats work in connected projects

If what you’re seeing doesn’t match the behavior described in the article, the tool might not be functioning as expected.
In that case, I recommend reaching out to our team directly via this secure form and including the unmasked screenshot, if possible, so our team can take a closer look.

Thanks!

Unfortunately it isn’t functioning as expected, and have raised and support ticket for it.
