Question

Mouse Icon for the tool is not updated on hovering over different elements

Alexander Giese

On the canvas, the mouse arrow is always replaced by that tool, that is currently selected. But on hovering over e.g. the edge of a section, over elements with comment tool active etc., the mouse stays the same and onl shows a mouse arrow, instead or the resizing icon, or the comment icon etc.

Mouse Arrow does not change on hovering over elements, so that its unclear wich tool is being used or is available

Please make repair the mouse to change to the right tool on hovering on different contexts again. It really makes working harder, because you are not sure which tool is currently selected.

Thank you!

Hi @Alexander Giese,

I understand you're seeing an issue where your mouse pointer isn't changing its shape when you hover over elements or switch to the comment tool, making it unclear which tool is active or available.

I just tested this on my end, and it seems to be working as expected for me, so I want to help figure out what's going on for you.

If you haven't tried them yet, could you give these quick fixes a shot?

  • Close any Figma tabs you're not using.
    • Browser: Try force-quitting your browser and opening Figma in a new window.
    • Desktop App: Try force-quitting it and restarting.

Should the issue stick around after trying those steps, could you provide a few more details for us? This will help us escalate it to our team for a deeper look!
Specifically:

  • Does this happen in your browser, desktop app, or both?
  • Is it just one file, or do you see this across all your Figma files?

Also, it would be super helpful if you could share a video recording demonstrating the behavior! Please make sure to include your full Figma screen in the recording. That'll really help us understand exactly what you're seeing.

Thanks,

Alexander Giese

I also got help from figma support. I cleared the desktop app cache via help > troubleshooting > reset app and that resolved the problem.

Thanks for the quick reply!
