Can't create new design files

I just upgraded to a pro account. But I’m unable to create a new design file. Is a pro account not able to create a design file?

  • I have my pro plan team selected.
  • I created a new project
  • If I try to ‘create new’ design file in that project. It asks me to request access. Which is very odd. I’m the only one on my team, and I just created the project. So I’m asking myself to approve me to create a file. (?)
  • If I go to the admin section for the team. It is asking me to approve myself. But if I approve myself. Figma wants me to add another seat for an additional $20 a month. This makes no sense. How many accounts do I need to buy to use your software?

Hi @Patrick Clancy

Thanks for reaching out and sorry for any confusion. The best next step is to contact our support team as they can access your payment details. You can submit your request using this link: https://help.figma.com/hc/en-us/requests/new?ticket_form_id=9707134248215.

Regarding seat types, Figma requires one Full seat to use all products. Based on your screenshots, it looks like the seat in question was a "Dev" seat, which doesn't have edit access. That's why upgrading from Dev to Full was necessary. When an admin approves a seat request, Figma first checks to see whether the requested seat is available in your plan. A seat is available if it is not assigned to a user.

  • If the requested seat is available: The seat is assigned to the user, and their previous seat is made available for someone else to use. This results in no additional seats or costs.
  • If the requested seat is not available: You need to add an additional seat to your subscription.

If you no longer need an unassigned seat, make that adjustment at your next plan renewal. You can learn more about how adding seats impact your billing, or how to adjust or remove seat counts at your plan renewal:

Lastly, please note that I redacted your screenshots to help keep your personal information secure.

Thanks for your patience.
