I’m having a problem with the text tool and how it interacts with the rest of my project. Previously, I would be able to hit “T”, click wherever I want the text, hit escape, and that would be it. Now, when I hover the cursor over a rectangle for example, the cursor has a little curve under it, and when I click, the rectangle just disappears. In the layers side bar, it changes the layer name from “Rectangle 2” to “text on a path.”

I tried restarting the Figma app, but it’s still doing it. I’m really not sure what I did. How do I get it back to normal?

This is the odd cursor in question.

This is text on path feature. To prevent the text tool from triggering on your shape, you can temporarily lock the layer.

@Nellya Is there a way to disable that? Did I somehow enable it to happen every time I want to place text near the edge of a shape? Even after locking the shape layer, it still results in the new text layer being that text on a path layer instead of a normal text layer.

I don’t think there is a way to disable this feature. And i don’t quite understand why your text is interacting with the locked shape. I just checked on my end, and i don’t have this issue. Could you record a video demonstrating the behavior?

Also, you can use frames instead of rectangles to avoid text on path feature
