Question

Remove unused editor seat?

Hey y'all, I feel like I'm losing my mind. I just added a user to my team account, when I meant to swap their seat with another user who was no longer using it. So now I have this unused seat I'm going to be billed for - and I can't find any way to remove it. I've googled and chatted with their AI bot.

Can anyone point me to where I can remove an unused seat so I'm not billed for it?

Can someone from figma also please explain the decision to hide this UX and make it so unclear?

Hi @Elliot Nash ,

I understand you're looking for a way to cancel an unassigned seat on your Professional plan during the current billing period.

It looks like you've already submitted a support ticket about this, and one of our specialists is currently working on your inquiry. Please wait for them to assist you. If you have any further questions or concerns, please reply directly to their message.

Just to clarify for anyone else who might come across this post: We don't offer a prorated refund for unassigned seats. If you've paid for a seat, it will remain available for you to assign to someone else until your plan renews. If you no longer need that seat, you can make that adjustment when it's time to renew your plan.

If an admin wants to move a user to a different, lower-cost seat, we first check if that lower-cost seat is available in your plan. A seat is considered available if it's not currently assigned to a user.

  • If the seat is available: The seat is assigned to the user, and their previous seat becomes available for someone else. This doesn't result in any additional seats or costs.
  • If the seat is not available: You'll need to purchase the desired seat for this user, and their existing seat will then become available for someone else to use.

You can find more details here: Remove or change seats during billing term

Feeling crazy myself. Someone I’ve never heard of in my company requested to edit a file, and I clicked DENY (I’m the only designers and closely guard the files). In fact I almost never have anyone request to edit, and I’ve gotten TWO edit requests this week.

Then I went into admin to see if there were any past users I should clean up, and there was this guy listed with a FULL SEAT. I hovered over it and it said he was manually approved by me today! I had to change his access to Collab (the only files I’ve allowed people to edit are FigJam files). So now

I’m not going pretend it couldn’t have been user error, but I honestly think it was Figma. I was so specific in clicking “Deny” because it was the second time this week, and I was so weirded out by the request from someone I’ve never heard of.

The whole thing went down very weird and felt sus.

Did Figma change things and allow people to ask to be Editors? In the past it has only ever ask me to approve someone as a Viewer. Then I would have to go and change their seat to Dev or Collab or whatever.

Hey @laurel.ch - I had a response here, and moved it to the new topic you made (since this one is older).

Please take a look at my reply there -- I want to make sure we can keep your message in it’s own space.
