Im creating a timeline of image collections (a historical fashion timeline) spanning 30+ years with each having 60 collections containing on average 50 images so 30x60x50=90,000 which is an insane amount of images to try and load!

The images are not massive but due to the sheer volume loading the page really isn’t something you can do in less than an hour…

I was wondering if there was a plugin or something that would generate tiny thumbnails so to allow the entire page to load fully initally and as you zoom in to a section higher res versions load? I know Figma already does this but the images are still too higher res initially to be usable. I know i can divide the years into frames which will help fix the loading issues however the function of being able to move horizontally and vertically on the fly is really important so I’d like to avoid doing so if possible!

Hi @Ryan28, Thanks for reaching out about image loading. The screenshot you’ve shared is absolutely gorgeous! I can understand how this issue could be a bit of a headache for you.

I’ve tried scouring our community for a plugin that could address this, but haven’t had any luck so far.
But don’t worry, we have a wealth of experienced designers in our community who might have some useful insights on this. So, let’s see what they suggest.

If anyone in our community has any ideas or suggestions, please feel free to jump in and share!

Thanks,

That sounds like an incredible project, especially for anyone in fashion or clothing history! For something like a fashion timeline like this, with thousands of images, a solution with Level of Detail (LOD) or lazy loading is definitely ideal. I'd recommend looking into libraries like PixiJS or OpenSeadragon which support dynamic image loading—great for thumbnails that scale to high-res on zoom. This approach not only keeps performance smooth but also makes browsing extensive collections (like seasonal fashion lines) feel seamless.
