Yep, this is still an issue - and a very frustrating one at that.

Hey All,

So sorry to say that we don’t have an update yet! Rest-assured, our engineers are still logging and trying to fix this bug.

Again, this generally will only happen with icons imported from other apps, where the mirroring on the points is reversed or missing.

The best workaround is to rebuild affected icons from scratch.
Please note that redrawing with fewer points can also help.

We can’t guarantee an ETA on a fix, our team follows this thread and takes everything you provide into consideration. We’ve also updated this topic to a feature request, so we can get a better gauge of the volume of the community this is affecting.

this is a massive issue. I have tried everything for color icons from streamline icons can not be flatten and it causes a huge issue. Instead of using an icon wrapper we have to have different sizes of icons for each size and it causes so much tedious work.

This is wild to me that figma has not fixed this long standing issue. I love you all but come on. It’s been years now. You all have the funding and team to fix this as this is not a small bug to have.

Stefan_Brigola

yes, it´s more than annoying and causes a lot of additional work … I love figma like we all do, but this is really a huge topic.

I’m struggling with this error today, after seeing that this is happening after so many years. Great job Figma! I need to go to Illustrator to edit my icons because I can’t fix this in some icons I’m working on.

Thomas_Silcher

This feature is still broken.

If you are experiencing weird outline stroke bugs where the layer disappears and seemingly has no points or content after right click > outline stroke, try undoing it, closing the file, reopening, and trying again. I just experienced a bug where outline the stroke of a simple circle shape was causing the layer to disappear even though I had outlined a copy of it just a few moments before in a different frame. Relaunched the file and suddenly worked.
¯_(ツ)_/¯ bugs abound. worth a try.

Unmarked as solved, hopefully that ensures the thread isn’t lost.

Sorry, but this is just not true. I create all my icons inside Figma, and this happens very often.

Still not solved 😦

I also have this issue and I’m creating my icons only inside Figma from very few points. Right now the same issue happened with a simple curved line from 2 points 🤷‍♀️
There’s one solution that sometimes works for me, but still requires some workaround after, because for some reason Figma puts so many points there, I don’t get it.
But try hitting Command (or Ctrl) + E while it’s still a stroke and then outline it. Sometimes it helps a bit to me.

Iana_Ielysheva

oh, sadly still have to live with this problem…

Having the same problem when working on some icons fra Streamline HQ. However, when I change the stroke position from center to either inside or outside, the outline stroke feature is working.

I can’t believe such simple path would fail…

Guys!!! I found it! After all this time!!

Three steps:

  1. Export your SVG icon/path with the stroke. Next to the export settings there are three dots. Press them → DISABLE Simplify Stroke

  2. Head to this website to covert the stroke to a fill: https://iconly.io/tools/svg-convert-stroke-to-fill

  3. Drag and drop the converted SVG shape into your project and use it as a combined shape!!

Fixed! (Easy workaround-ish) 😀

cannot believe we are approaching 2024 and this is STILL NOT WORKING
stop telling me I need AI or some other websites to complete such a SIMPLE thing

Oleksandr22

I found a solution, that works for me! The plugin is called “Path Offset”. You just need to set a negative number as offset value. Hope this helps

Is this being worked on currently, or do we need to submit a new request?

This works for me: Press “K” and upscale to x100 and apply outline. Upscale more before outlining if the result is bad. Sometimes extra points are generated but usually thats fine.

Then reverse the size by pressing “K” and scale to x0.01 (1 / upscale).

I have not tested this on complex shapes!

Jaffar_Kazmi

Thanks a bunch, just used your tip and it worked. Surely u saved me a lot of time, Thanks ❤️

Stefan_Brigola

A really major topic not fixed since February 2021???
WHY?
It produces unnecessary extra work. At least an explanation would be good, so we know why this is not solved yet. Thank you.
I am quite surprised this has only 25 votes 🧐

Stefan_Brigola

Thank you for the advice. In my case it does not work – I don´t get it why Figma is creating this extra lines like here:

Hey, Figma, are you sure someone is working on this?

It’s prety obvious that your whole vector system is complete crap, this issue is only one of many. Any plans on reworking it finally?

Or Adobe has oher priorities than a working program?
