Adrienne Lim

Hello fellow Figma friends,

For the life of me, I can’t understand why I can’t see the MCP setting under Preferences. I can’t see it in Dev Mode or Design mode.

Thanks in advance :)

Hey @Adrienne Lim, thank you for reaching out about the Dev Mode MCP Server feature. Let me help clarify the requirements and availability of this feature.

The Dev Mode MCP Server is currently in open beta and is available only to users with a Dev or Full seat on Professional, Organization, or Enterprise plans. Additionally, this feature can only be accessed through the Figma desktop app.

To use this feature, please ensure you meet these requirements:
1. You have a Dev or Full seat (not a Design-only seat)
2. You're using the Figma desktop app
3. You're using a code editor that supports MCP Servers (like VS Code, Cursor, Windsurf, or Claude Code)

If you meet these requirements and still can't see the feature, please let me know so I can help you further troubleshoot.

Thanks,

Hi @Assi, thanks for for sharing the details. I’m going to check in with the team internally on this for you, and I’ll follow up as soon as I have an update.

Appreciate your patience in the meantime, thank you!

Hey, the team suggested checking whether you’re able to enter Dev Mode. If you see a paywall there, that would explain why MCP isn’t supported.

Also, could you double-check whether the file you’re viewing is in the team where you have a Dev seat assigned? That can sometimes be the cause.

Thank you,

Gayani

Hi,

You are correct - the file I’m viewing is not in my team. When I view a file that is in my team, I see the MCP menu item.
How can I enable MCP on a file that is not from my team?

Thanks a lot,

Assi

Hey @Assi, thanks for confirming that! That definitely explains why you’re not seeing MCP on that file. Currently, the Dev Mode MCP Server is only available to users with a Dev or Full seat on paid plans, which is why it works on files in your team but not on ones outside of it.

If you’d like to use MCP on that file, you’ll need to either have a Dev or Full seat on the team where the file lives or move the file into your own team where you already have access.

You can find  more information on how to move a file in our Help Center article: Move a file.

Let me know if there is anything else I can help with!

Hi @Ramsey78, thanks for reaching out and apologies for the delayed reply!

Gayani, who was monitoring this topic, is currently out of office, but I’d be happy to step in to troubleshoot with you.

Can you confirm that you’ve check the following suggestions made by Gayani above? 👆
Your screenshot shows that you have a full seat, but are you using the desktop app?

Again, this feature can only be accessed through the Figma desktop app by users who have a Dev or Full seat (not a Design-only seat) and are using a code editor that supports MCP Servers (like VS Code, Cursor, Windsurf, or Claude Code).

Hi @Anatoliy, thanks for chiming in here!

To enable the desktop MCP server:

  1. Open the Figma desktop app and make sure you've updated to the latest version.

  2. Create or open a Figma Design file.

  3. In the toolbar at the bottom, toggle to Dev Mode or use the keyboard shortcut Shift+D.

  4. In the MCP server section of the inspect panel, click Enable desktop MCP server.

Hi there! I’m still unable to enable MCP from the Preferences menu, even though MCP server is running in Dev Mode. Professional Full Seat plan.

Thanks ✌🏻

Hi @René van de Hulsbeek, thanks for chiming in here!

Are you having issues enabling the MCP server or just looking for the ability under Preferences?

To clarify, you must enable the MCP server first, as I outlined above, before being able to change your MCP settings under Preferences. If you don’t see them right away, you need to refresh your tabs before checking in the menu again.

René van de Hulsbeek

Hi @djv, thanks for your response. I think MCP server is running since I’m also able to reach it from Cursor. I just can’t see the options in the Preferences menu.

I noticed an error when trying to reach it from Antigravity, but this might be an issue from their side.
