Old/removed components showing up in published library

I have old components showing up in an updated and published library. These components have already been removed from the library. There are no instances of the component in the library. See the attached photo. The icons with the white background are old/removed. If I click on the icon with the white background and ‘go to main component’ it just brings me to the library but there’s no component in the library…

Hey Joe! Sorry to hear you are having issues with your components.

When you remove the components on the main file and update the library, they should not be available anymore.

This will happen when an instance of the component is still in your file. Please double check and search for the instance by using the Command F feature and selecting instance and then entering the name.
If you find an instance, please delete it from your file. This should remove it from the assets panel. Let me know if this helps!

If not, I’d recommend you to reach out to the support team directly so they can investigate it: here
Please include the URL of your file, add support-share@figma.com as an Editor to this file (this won’t affect your billing at all) so that can take a closer look. Please also send us the names or screenshots of components which you’d like to locate the instances or to delete.

The advice above is solid. Usually this happens when I do not detach or delete an instance but I delete the source component as she said.

There are also many plugins out there that will search for unused components in your file. I have tried one or two but never needed to use them much more than a fast test. Perhaps you can search plugins and maybe find something?

Part of me Joe, feels like what you are saying though is not about the instances but WITHIN your source library itself right?

Like you removed the component but it still shows in your sidebar list?

If you are on desktop Figma, have you tried clearing your cache?

The component has been completely removed. All instances have been removed in the source file and any other working files. The old/deleted component still shows up in the library…

So weird.

Did you try clearing the cache?

Does it affect only you?

If you would like me to look at the file, post a link or message me.

Chiming in here. I also have the same issue – for a long time now. All instances have been deleted, have removed the library from my file. But the unwanted asset still keeps showing up.

I also have this problem. My asset search consistently returns a ton of old, deleted, unused (in the current file at least) components. I can drag it into the file from the asset search and select go to main component, asks if I want to restore. I have deleted all main components, cleared chache, reinstalled Figma, used desktop/browser, etc etc - nothing ever fixes it. Been happening for a year or maybe a lot longer I have just accepted this as a bug that isn’t getting fixed but would love a solution.
