Changing the variant of a component from a different component

Is it possible to change the displayed variant of a component by clicking on a different component? I only appear to get the option to interactively change variants of a component from itself. I would’ve thought this is a basic thing, but I can’t figure out how to do it.

Unfortunately, there is no conditional logic in Figma. You can vote for adding this functionality here: Prototyping | Conditional logic & variables Add conditions to interactive components To be able to change something, you must include it in your component’s variant. But in this case, I think it doesn’t fit at all. The best way to do what you want is to create additional frames with different content.

Thanks for your reply. what I’m asking for has nothing to do with conditional logic. It’s basically exactly the same as it exists, just extending the ability to switch variants from an interaction on a different component.

ie
In prototype mode I link component A to component B,
then I define, on clicking A, B changes from Variant1 to Variant2.
Why can I choose overlay etc… but not a component’s variant? Especially when I’ve linked both components in prototyping mode.
It really is no different from what already exists within a single component already.
