🚨 Big News: Our Community Forum is Getting a Makeover (January 8th 2025)

Hey everyone! Please note that we’ve decided to postpone the updated Community Forum launch to January 8th to ensure a smooth user experience. Taking this extra time will help us address technical challenges and avoid holiday disruptions.
Feel free to continue posting in this topic your feedback and ideas to improve the forum - we will add it to our list for 2025.


Our Community Forum is about to get a makeover, and we can’t wait to share it with you.

At Figma, we’re always iterating to create spaces where our community can connect and thrive. We’ve been working hard on some updates to deliver an even better experience for everyone here.

With the changes we have planned for next year, you’ll enjoy improved search and navigation, plus a fresh, user-friendly design that (we hope) feels vibrant and very Figma.

:memo: Important Notes:

  • :spiral_calendar_pad: Downtime & Data:
    From January 2nd at 5pm ET until January 8th at 10am ET, the forum will be accessible as usual, but any new posts, likes, or registrations WILL NOT carry over after a brief downtime on January 8th (8am-10am) ET.
  • :broom: Forum Clean-Up: We’re doing a clean-up as part of this update, meaning some older content will be archived (but still visible in the forum). Rest assured, key discussions and up-to-date posts will remain accessible.

:arrows_counterclockwise: Reminder of What’s Changing:

  • Public Profiles: Your profile will be reset and simplified. If you have a description you want to keep, we recommend to save a back up somewhere before early next year to prevent data loss.
  • Private Messages: Private messages sent before the launch date won’t be stored.
  • Category Structure: Forum categories will be reorganized to make things easier to find.
  • Function Changes in Categories: Some features, like the voting feature, will be paused for now as we work on improving them. Updates are planned for 2025.
  • Improved Search: Find answers faster with enhanced search functionality, featuring federated search! This means search results will now include both Forum topics and Help Center articles for faster, more comprehensive answers.

Great! Will the makeover add functionality to allow for linking/connecting submissions together (Especially if basically the same question, suggestion etc.) to reduce the volume of duplicative posts, see standardly presented decisioning (In review, approved, rejected, in development, live, etc.)?

Our Community support team handles linking and connecting similar topics.
Users can also report duplicate or related posts directly to our team for review. We will give you more information on a new way to do this in December 16 or 17.

Regarding your second question, sadly that’s not coming in December. The initial forum update has been focused on some foundational aspects but we have plenty more improvements we plan to enact in 2025.
The suggestion you mentioned is part of that list and we are currently going through a prioritization exercise to decide what will make the cut next year.

One thing would be cool to see if a suggestion is under consideration, or status of something that is being tackled, we really want to know whats coming next and if it can help us.

Will there be localizations for Figma? Like Turkish?

Hi there! Could you clarify whether you’re referring to Figma (the product) or the Figma Forum?

If you’re referring to Figma (the product), it’s not possible at the moment. Currently, Figma is only available in English and Japanese.

As a workaround, you can use Google’s Chrome browser and its machine translation to translate Figma into more languages.

I think there should be more preset tags (or custom tags) when create a new post. I don’t remember which one is missing but I did have a difficult time searching for the most matching tag for some of my previous posts.

Also, I see Figma Forum is available in Vietnamese, I hope Figma app could be so in some day.

One thing that bugs me about the forum is how I can’t comment on an idea or vote for an idea if it has been inactive for 90 days or something like that. Just because no one has commented on an idea for a certain number of days doesn’t mean it’s not a good idea. Please consider revising the way this is handled.

Just curious: are you switching platform or will you keep using Discourse? If you’re switching, will it be bespoke or will it rely on another open source project?
