Guessing no one wanted to actually USE the forum anyway.
Hi @KennLucas,
Would you mind elaborating what’s on your mind about “pinning stuff” and the use of the forum?
Since you are an active member of our community forum, I am assuming that you already know that some changes are coming soon. Thus, if you have any thoughts on the forum, this is great timing to let us know as our investment in this platform is not stopping next week!
A big purple box on EVERY page, above the content we are trying to see is intrusive and annoying.
No way to dismiss this?
And IF I could dismiss it, persist my choice. I don’t want to see it every time after I dismiss it.
If that is not bad enough, you force-pin a bunch of other items up there on the forum home page.
Users have to scroll for days just to get to forum content.
At least throw in the ability to collapse all that!
You basically have made the forum extremely painful to use.
And don’t you DARE respond saying that is why you are redoing it! Because the same non-ux-designer decision makers that do all this stuff are still making design decisions where they should not be in that role.
The options we have to bring the attention of the community to important updates are currently limited. (And to be fair, might continue to be limited in 2025 and beyond)
Since the changes we are talking about are going to be significant and potentially cause some disruption (e.g. short downtime), we’ve decided to use what Discourse calls a global banner, which cannot be dismissed.
I understand it can be intrusive and annoying (you’ll have noticed that we make use of it very rarely) and, when deciding how/where to communicate the forum makeover, we concluded that it is our best option to ensure everyone knows what to expect instead of being caught by surprise when seeing a “different” forum.
Your feedback on non-dismissable banners and pinning topics is noted thought and we will take it into consideration (alongside the designer we’ve partnered with for the makeover) when the changes to the forum take effect.
In the meantime, we’d be glad to hear any other constructive feedback you might have (on the current forum or the makeover teasers) - feel free to drop it here or send me a DM.
Best,
seni
