Request for Essential Figma Shortcuts: "Hug content", "Fill container" and "Fixed width"

Hey Figma Community!

I wanted to suggest adding keyboard shortcuts for “Hug content”, “Fill container” and “Fixed width”.

With the new design, these options are now in a dropdown, and having shortcuts would save so much time—potentially making our workflow 30% faster!

Imagine using these shortcuts on Figma Creator Micro or other external keyboards—how cool would that be? If you agree, please like this post so Figma can see the demand and implement this feature.

Thanks for your support!

I am also waiting for this shortcut! It will significantly increase the speed of work.

There’s a little known shortcut for this. Holding down OPTION or COMMAND & double clicking the edge of the selection will apply fill or hug, respectively.

Note to Figma devs: for some reason, this trick works on multiple selections for FILL (holding down OPTION + CLICK), but does NOT work for multiple selections for HUG (holding down COMMAND + CLICK). Please fix !

EDIT - There’s another way to add the shortcut for this. You can save the Auto Layout Shortcuts plugin. This will add a bunch of commands to your app menu, which you can assign to a keyboard shortcut via MacOS Keyboard shortcuts in Settings.

Thank you for your comment! But in the 1st case it’s not convenient when you have a super long item and you have to look for a corner to do this. Additionally, if you have a lot children in your main auto layout it may be difficult too.
And regarding the shortcuts in menu-I think it’s anyway an additional step, to press command p, run plugin and select hug content or fill container
Could you please share your experience of how you usually use auto layouts? Like pressing each time on the interface button?

Yes, I am also waiting for these shortcuts! All designers I know work with auto layout every day but with shortcuts work will be faster!

Hey All, thanks for the feedback!

We’ll pass this onto the team for future consideration. And thank you to @Raphael_Guilleminot for providing temporary alternatives. 🙂

@Ulya I don’t think you understood my recommendation. In Mac OS Keyboard shortcut settings, you can spell out the full menu path to a menu command and assign a shortcut to it. If you SAVE a plugin, it will be available in your mac app menu bar. You just have to manually write out the full path of the command using-> to target a command located in a sub-menu. Be careful, it’s case sensitive.

In this case, I used

Plugins->Saved plugins->Auto Layout Shortcuts->Horizontal sizing->Fixed
width

AH, I got it! Just tried it, but for some reason, shortcuts do not appear in my plugin (saved) as you showed in the screenshot.

😦

Really appreciate your help!

UPD IT WORKS! You’re the best!!!

@Ulya Good news, it’s now a native Figma command that you can assign a shortcut too. I thought of you.

UPD: I changed the path according to this: ahahahah

Hey @Raphael_Guilleminot ! thanks! ohhh I cant do it again. when I set a shortcut for “Actions…” it works (Basically command+K). But when then I add “Set width to hug contents” - it does not work anymore. So the command:

Actions...->Set width to hug contents

Doesn’t work…

Maybe you know how to solve it?
Thank you
