As a designer I would like to record my prototype screen or export it as a gif so I can use it in presentations and send quick examples in the team group.
It would be great to have the same feature then Principle to record or export the prototype to gif.
Does anyone have the same need? Is anyone using a plugin or workaround to help solve this?
I won’t say your idea is a stupid one, i think it’s even a nice one! But it’s not an answer to the initial problem. For many needs you just need a video ¯_(ツ)_/¯.
Adding my voice to this thread as it would be such a dream to be able to export the prototypes to gif or mp4… thank you.
Not yet! Thanks for the validation @dylanvd
I was happy to found out that there’s this Export to GIF/ Video Plugin - but come on, at 20 EUR a month??? No thank you, I’ll stick to my crappy screen share 😃 Jesus nowadays you cannot own software at all, it’s all subscriptions, subscriptions, subscriptions.
We built a really simply (free) plugin that allows you to either:
- upload your existing screens and turn them into an interactive demo (with variables, link sharing, animations, multiple hotspots, voiceovers, GIF/video export options, etc)
- or open your prototype on the browser and record each click
Free plan includes 5 free demos (you can delete old ones to cycle through your limits) - sharing here in case it’s helpful to anyone!
For the entirety of my career I’ve had to share prototypes with people but sometimes a video is easier than a clickable prototype. I actually do this often and sometimes just more convenient. Big bonus point if there an option to record a voiceover and/or add music too
Absolutely, having the ability to export device mockups directly from the prototype mode would streamline the workflow, right? So, is this feature available now, or is it still on the way?
Are there any updates on this Is exporting the prototype to GIF or any way to share your prototype video? It would save a lot of time 😀
needed this feature today 😥
Hey everyone! We NEED your votes here!
Someone from Community Support dropped by in 2023 (look up there) and mentioned they’re focusing on the most voted features (800+ votes). This thread’s been around for 3 years and we’re only at 698 votes? That’s crazy, especially with how many people checked this thread (+200k people)
Come on folks, let’s get those numbers up! Just takes a second to vote. 👍
This is by far the best solution for this:

I initially developed this plugin myself but after one year I passed it on to another developer who is in charge of it now (a very capable one).
I suggest to try this out and message them if you were facing any issues.
I don’t understand why this video export option isn’t a standard part of Figma.
Surely creating animated social content (stories/reels etc) in mp4 is a huge feature,
yet you can’t simply export the video! (without an expensive plugin)
Pleeeeeeease do it, devs! We need this feature!
+1..
I need this funtion, please Follow up !
It blows my mind that the team at Figma hasn’t built this yet. This is a massive need, over 3 years old, and still nothing.
Genuinely, can anyone from Figma explain why this hasn’t been built?
we need to have this feature
+1..
need this
i need it too in buildin figma, pls dev

In 2025, this is still a challenge. Figma please work on this
+1 This would be really helpful to have!
Totally agree with this—native export to GIF or MP4 would be a game-changer.
Here’s an intuitive implementation path that I think Figma could realistically pull off with relatively low lift:
-
Users build out prototype flows using Smart Animate + automatic delay transitions (the way we already do for smooth, timed animations).
-
When we click Present, there’s an added option to “Export as GIF” (or MP4).
-
Figma captures the prototype playback and generates a clean, high-quality animation—ready to share without needing to manually screen record or stitch frames.
This would save so much time. Often I need to create a GIF to share motion flows for complex wizards.
Seems like a small feature with massive value. Third party apps want to charge an arm and a leg.
And we should be able to switch between different types of pointers to simulate mobile.
I’ve made a free tool recently,
it records your prototypes with the highest quality, using a Desktop app

I’d love to hear your thoughts.
