Was told by a Figma rep that there are only 200+ requests for Figma to export as webP - and they didn’t sound positive that it would be integrated.

So, I want to rally the community to push for this feature. There are already paid plugins out there that do this, so there must be a need. Show your support and let’s push the incredible team at Figma to incorporate it!

You should post this on the “Share an idea” category, where we can vote on it.

Great call! Thanks @Luciano

Just changed it 🙂

Figma,

Let’s get this feature out there :)

It crunches images while keeping quality.

I need this desperately, currently have to convert all images through external converters and it takes a lot of time.

If I could bulk export all my layout images in WebP format, that would save me hours from every project.

The file size and loading speed are so important in e-commerce platforms, that all images have to be uploaded in WebP format. It is the difference between 300KB (PNG) and 15KB (WebP) and makes a huge difference in speed tests like Lighthouse

There must be a reason why this hasn’t been integrated that goes beyond user-demand. Alas, speculation will get us nowhere.

Previously, I was publishing my images, then using an Action in Photoshop to convert. Still a bit time consuming, so I built a webP converter that watches a local folder. I publish my Figma PNGs to this folder and grab them from my local published folder.
