There is a problem since the dev mode is out of free mode for permitting developers on Figma. When I give the dev mode permission to them they can also edit the project; I don’t want this. Developers can easily mess up design. On the other hand, we have all kinds of access on the Figma team management page like team permission, design seat and FigJam seat.

If Figma adds a new permission like dev mode seat it’s a better way to manage developers instead of giving each of them both edit access and dev mode access.

Also, in the project sharing popup, “can access to dev mode” needs to be added.

I’m a freelancer and I’ve just moved to Figma from using Adobe XD (a long transition period), I’ve just run into this madness.

How can allowing a developer to just look at font sizes etc warrant a massive increase in price on my behalf?

It also leads to a massive pain in the ass of having to try and explain why I need to charge it to my client. Not to mention, if they do agree, I then have to do billing admin every month to allow different clients to work from my designs.

This is crazy. Even Adobe allowed this feature for free in XD.

Blatant highway robbery and should be illegal. Most atrocious billing method ever. Why in the hell should dev mode be linked with a design seat. My devs never design. My designers never dev. Absurdity at it’s finest.

I work as part of a product design team and as a wider organisation we would love to see the dev teams (the bulk of the organisation) use dev mode to help them and enhance team collaboration.

Unfortunately dev mode is only available as part of th editor access which is very counter intuitive as most devs don’t edit designs. The issue then becomes that the full editor pricing becomes prohibitive and busines pushes back against a full license fee for a single feature.

I think it would be amazing if you could bring out a Dev Mode only license option at like $4.99 or something which can then be assigned to team members on the implementation side.

This will greatly increase the likelihood of adoption by the broader team and enhance collaboration with less business push back because of prohibitively high costs.

Figma has not adressed this madness at all. Crazy.

Money money money… #devmodefeesmustfall
