Hey there, thanks for reaching out, & sorry for the frustration!
At any time, did you select Uppercase in your Type settings > Case? Does selecting Lowercase or Title Case change your text?

i had the same frustrating issue, it was because the fonts selected was material icons, i changed to google fonts Roboto, its on the left under Text anything written there click on it and change to a normal font not to icons
