A colleague of mine seems to have posted a lot of code into FigJam by copying from a Figma file (copy as code) and the file crashed. When trying to enter recovery mode it just tries to load but them gets stuck on loop and never fully loads so I can’t view version history. Anyone had this problem?

Hello @ALISA_PONDSUKSIRI, Thank you for getting in touch about this. Sorry to hear you’re having trouble.

Could you please try the following to see if you can restore a previous version of the file from the file browser? Here’s how:

  1. Close all open tabs for this file
  2. In the file browser, hold down the modifier keys:
    Mac: ⇧Shift ⌃Control ⌥ Option
    Windows: Alt + Shift
  3. Click on the file thumbnail
  4. Select “Restore from version”
  5. Click Restore next to the appropriate version.

After successfully loading your file, our Help Center provides a guide on preventing future occurrences of reaching this limit: Reduce memory usage in files

If the above doesn’t help, I recommend to reach out our support team to take a closer look here: https://help.figma.com/hc/en-us/requests/new
When reaching out, please remember to include the following details:

  • Your Figma account email
  • Troubleshooting steps you took
  • The URLs of the affected file, add support-share@figma.com as an editor of those files(this will not affect your billing)

Thank you for your help in troubleshooting the issue!

Hi @Orvar_Thor_Sigurdsson, Thanks for reaching out about this.

Figma is a browser-based app, which means it’s subjected to the available memory limit that applies to each browser tab, including those in our Desktop App. When loading or editing files nears or exceeds that memory limit, it can cause performance issues like long load times or crashes.

As we await input from other members of the community, if you are unable to access the version history, would you mind trying to open the file in thumbnail-only mode? For further information, please refer to this link: Reduce memory usage in files - Open file in thumbnail only mode

After successfully opening the file in thumbnail only mode, please attempt to troubleshoot and decrease memory usage. Further information can be found here: Reduce memory usage in files - Tips for reducing memory

We hope this information is helpful. If anyone in our community has any extra advice or recommendations, please don’t hesitate to share them here!

Thank you once again for reaching out.

Hello I’m also facing an issue with recovery mode loops, and I’ve tried using the thumbnail view by adding a query parameter from this link on how to reduce memory usage. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem to work with UI3. Do you know how I can fix this? I can’t open my file now. 😔
