Placed images not exporting in .svg

SVG does not do a good job supporting images. Try adding the image in Illustrator.

If you encounter this problem today, will you get the same answer, or is there a new way?

Yes. The SVG files isn’t trouble opens and works in other applications.
photoshop and chrome.

Then I looked again and realized that some computers were opening the file and some were not.

Thanks for the information @ak12, can you give me an examples on what devices the SVG is opening correctly and and on what devices it is not?

I would need this information to double check internally with the team.

really nice, the question is from 2022, and 2 years later it’s still here. Ok I have the same problem, I export the frame with embed image in Figma to svg, open it in AI and the image is gone.

About a month ago I must use export with pdf, and the image is still show up in AI. But now it’s gone too with pdf export.

I’m encountering the same problem. Any Figma frames containing images result in missing images after exporting as SVG and importing into Adobe Illustrator. It’s frustrated situation.

In the meantime, to help our team troubleshoot effectively for you, could you please share a video recording of the issue? Showing the full Figma window, with the properties and layers panels visible, and expanding any relevant layers you’re having trouble with, would be really helpful. This allows our team to try reproducing the behavior in their own files.

Could you also provide a direct link to the file and invite support-share@figma.com with “can edit” permission? Users with @figma.com emails won’t count toward your billing.

Lastly, are you able to export the SVG successfully within Figma, but then encounter issues when importing it into Adobe Illustrator? Any additional context like this can help us get to the root of the problem.

Sure, until I get a chance to do all that, here’s some additional info: I recreated the graphic in Adobe Illustrator and exported as SVG from there, and had the exact same problem occur where the embedded image would vanish from the SVG while all vector elements remained. So in fact, perhaps the issue is with the SVG format itself? It’s very bizzare as sometimes the image will show in the thumbnail (when viewed in the Finder - on Mac) and sometimes it will not, the same file, without resaving it or anything, just looking at it at different times.

Just to narrow things down further, is this happening in both the Figma desktop app and the browser?

I’m having this issue too, trying to export SVG files with images with no luck–the images don’t show up when I open it up in Illustrator. Is there a workaround for this?

I’ve tried opening the files in Illustrator and InDesign, and the non-vector image assets are still missing.

Is there any way I can send privately? The file can’t be shared publicly. I submitted a support ticket for this issue on 11/11 and have not received a response but would be happy to work with them privately.

Hello, I’ve experienced the same problem for like 3 days. I had to make a presentation of the interface, in mockups, and for quality, I need svg files but images wasn’t shown neither in Illustrator or Photoshop. To make it short, after testing many different approaches, I end up exporting Figma assets as PDF then placing them in photoshop, which worked as the quality remain as svg’s quality plus, the pictures aren’t lost.

Hi there. Just following  up on this 😊. Have there been any updates? Or is there something that I can do in order to have the images export with an svg format? 

I would prefer not to have to do it in multiple steps. I am in need of editable text files for my designs which I why export as svg. Problem is I have a team that needs to be able to edit in Illustrator and the images still aren’t showing up.

Hi, we have the same issue. 

Same issue, exporting svg from figma, it shows perfectly in chrome or opening it back in figma. However opening it both in photoshop and illustrator shows everything except the included images.
