Why can't Admins of a team automatically get edit access to all of the files within?

I searched for this but didn’t find anything that really addresses this. I was recently added to a new team for support - but even though they added me as an Admin I still have to ask for edit permissions on files within the team. It’s like I need to be added individually to each file as well.

Is this the way it is intended to work? I would think as an admin I should be able to edit any file within the team automatically.
