[Bug] Share Prototype button issue in presentation view

Clicking on the Share Protoype button does nothing. Can’t access the prototype sharing permissions either to allow anyone to view. Even when clicking the settings icon while in the normal editor view for the “protoype link” it goes into prototype view and I can’t access the settings because the share prototype button doesn’t work.

Tried in Chrome and Safari. Currently up to date with the latest browser versions.

Hi @Josh Parkinson — really appreciate you laying this out so clearly, and for noting the steps you'd already tried.

I was able to reproduce the issue in prototype view on Chrome as well, so I'm flagging this with the appropriate team right away. It looks like a few others in the community are running into the same thing as I see your thumbs up here @Terren Proctor, @Kristina Bourlotos, and @iharding.

In the meantime, here are two temporary solutions that should help you move forward:

  1. Copy the prototype link from Design mode. In the editor, click Share (top-right corner) → scroll to the additional options at the bottom of the modal → select Copy prototype link. This bypasses prototype view entirely.
  2. Try the Figma Desktop App. I am using version 126.4.11 and the Share prototype button is working as expected for me. If you have it downloaded, it’s worth a try while we look into this.

I'll be back with an update as soon as I hear something from the team. Thanks again for flagging this.

I am unable to open anything with the “Share prototype” CTA. I am able to share design files but the the button for Sharing prototypes seems broken. Will not even open a window.

Hi @brookenivens and @Bryan Keller — thanks for flagging this, and sorry for the trouble. We’ve confirmed this is a bug and we're actively looking into it.

I've merged this thread into an existing one where we're tracking this issue. I posted a couple of temporary solutions above — please give them a try and let us know if they help.

Updated Figma today and Mac OS:
Cannot share a prototype directly the share button does not do anything,

Work arounds:

1)

Open the design file

Hit share on the design file.
Select Copy Prototype link near the bottom
Open in browser adjust width/height etc.
copy the URL from the address bar in browser to share

2)

Open the prototype tab of design file in Figma

do not select anything on the screen

Chose the starting point flow

select the link icon / copy flow link button next to flow
paste link in browser

adjust height/width etc.
copy the URL from the address bar in browser to share
