Before sections were available in Figma, my team created our own components to organize our workspace and separate archived/in progress work from work that is ready for engineering. We used colors and watermarks to help engineering quickly recognize whether they were referencing the right or wrong frames.

Sections have much better interactions so we’ve adopted them to organize our workspaces, but without having stylized section components available as assets we can pull into our work, its not always clear to our engineers when they are looking at an archived or outdated frame. The ability to customize and publish a section similar to any other component (with extra UI elements to contain metadata, custom colors/background, etc.), would help us better support collaboration across our team.
