Usability concern regarding the vertical ruler

Hello Figma Team,

I really appreciate the new sidebar update and the overall improvements to the interface. However, I would like to share a usability concern regarding the vertical ruler.

Currently, the sidebar overlaps and hides the vertical ruler, which makes it difficult to quickly access and place guides without collapsing the entire panel. This interrupts the workflow and adds unnecessary friction during design tasks, especially when working with alignment-sensitive layouts.

It would be greatly appreciated if the vertical ruler could remain visible within the canvas area, even when the sidebar is expanded. I believe this small adjustment would significantly improve the overall user experience for many designers.

Thank you for your continued efforts and improvements to the platform.

Hey Figma! I absolute love the new sidebar, but could you please stop hiding my vertical ruler behind it? Having to constantly collapse the entire panel just to grab a single guide feels like a weird UI mini-game nobody asked for.

Please bring it back to the visible canvas area before we all lose our minds over misaligned layers.

Agreed. This simple change is super frustrating to my workflow.  I use guides and rulers constantly, this change—having to hide the sidebar to see the vertical ruler—is slowing me down.  @figma_admin can you fix this please.

Hey All, thanks for the feedback!

I hear you. Having an option to have the vertical ruler still visible may be a capability that others in the community can benefit from as well. I’ve updated your topic and passed it onto the team as a feature request. We’ll keep an eye on the feedback from the community to advocate, if or when the team wishes to prioritize this in the future.
