Why is design mode paid?

I have noticed that design mode is a paid feature of Figma slides.
Is this a final decision? I really like using Figma and its amazing features to create stunning slides for my presentations. Taking design mode away feels so limiting.

Also, is this just limited to slides, or is this change also coming to the normal Figma design mode?

Hey @Readyplayer, thank you for reaching out!

Figma Slides is now in beta and free for the rest of the year. In early 2025, Figma Slides will be free on Starter plans and $3 or $5/month depending on your paid plan.

We’ll let you know about any pricing changes a few months before they take effect. You may opt out of Figma Slides for your team or organization at any time.

You can learn more and stay up to date on Figma Slides and other Figma products in beta on our Help Center.

The pricing is not going to change on the Figma starter plan. There’s no time limit for using our Starter plan and no payment will be required after a certain period of time of using it, unless the user decides on and prompts an upgrade, as explained in Upgrade to a paid plan.

In case you’re interested, you can check what all our plans have to offer in terms of available features here: Figma plans and features

Let me know if this clears your questions, happy to help out further.

Thanks,
Gayani

Hey @Readyplayer, sorry for the confusion!

I wanted to clarify Design mode in Figma Slides requires a full seat for Figma Design. In early 2025, Figma Slides will be free on Starter plans and $3 or $5/month depending on your paid plan and you’re right you need a full seat for Figma Design to use the design more in Figma Slide.

You can find more information in our Help Center article: https://help.figma.com/hc/en-us/articles/25423848723863-Use-design-mode-in-Figma-Slides.

Thanks,
