Totally agree, it has so many problems and the UX is very bad, you can increase the scale to fix that problem but some important things are reordered and moved to another place which is also bad.
Absolute is now ignore auto layout
I’ve learned again that things can always be worse than you think.
The font size (if you focus on Inter) is 9
Wow, 9… I just don’t have the words
Please never use a font size smaller than 16 Inter
Toolbar should be able to change it’s position at the very least. You don’t ever use it since you know some hotkeys. My eyes naturally look more to the bottom of the page, and now this useful space is taken by some garbage icons
I know it’s been said elsewhere, but I’m unsure what benefit the floating elements add to the functionality. The design desaturates and bleeds off the edge. The panels look obtrusive over the workspace rather than being outside of it. The rulers make absolutely no sense.
The UI now doesn’t allow for a separation between the tool and workspace. It now feels like it’s intruding on the work I’m trying to do, like a modern-day clippy.
If you want floating panels - please let them properly move around/pin to the edges.
I also cannot believe how small the fonts are now. I use a high resolution to give me lots of canvas space, so I had already scaled the interface to 110%. I checked out what everyone was complaining about - and just "WOW. What‽ That’s bad.”
Also the sidebar panels appear floating now, as if I were able to move them, which we can’t seem to – wasting useful space in the centre. And being able to see a blurred bit of my design to the left side of the panels is distracting. This feels cosmetic design fluff for the sake of it, and not useful.
Addition: Hey Figma – please don’t fall trap of the sunk cost fallacy. Better to do some real user feedback to us lot complaining here and then do a quick update on UI3.
This. This was my initial objection to the UI. What is the point of having the empty space to the left of the floating panel. I swear, I’ve met these designers. “lets make it look cool and floaty.” No one cares after the 1st glance at the visual design once they start using it. Like over designing a wrench. Just let me turn bolts! I’ve got thousands to go!
Smaller than 16px is fine especially static UI text. Please don’t act like 16px is the absolute minimum, even Apple uses smaller. But 9px subdued normal weight is pushing it. It should probably be 10 or 11px all caps for legibility.
I think that 16 font size (if you focus on Inter) is really the absolute minimum. Just because Apple uses it doesn’t mean it’s good or right. Probably, for readability, the size should be at least 16 by Inter
I am teaching Figma to my students and I faced an issue which after asking from most of the students they were facing the same difficulty. If we look in the new UI Layout pannel have 2 sections “Layout” section and “Layout Grids” In previous UI they were together and they were quite easy to interact. At first glance I was not even able to look at the Layout section then after strugling fro 2 minutes I found that.
So my suggestion is to move “Layout” Section and “Layout Grid” together. Like One after another.
Thank you
This is of the utmost importance when working with several libraries in a single file.
It deserves to be a topic in itself, so it can gather dedicated votes and be worthy of attention from Figma development team.
Could you create a Topic/request with this info @FullTrucker ?
The feedback in this thread has been pretty one sided - at this point, we’re mostly repeating things that have already been repeated ad nauseum.
Are Figma going to respond at some point?
Or is this thread just here for people to vent into the void?
It would be nice if we could get an update on how they’re taking this feedback, what they’re working on, what won’t change, and so on.
This thread started in July, so surely they must have some idea by now?
On the left panel, when the pages section is collapsed there is no clue on which page you are. I liked how you had the name of the page in the old UI on the top right of the panel and looked like a dropdown to open it again. Can you add the name somewhere when is it collapsed?
Done. Please, if anyone else thinks being able to discover components in libraries by browsing (instead of only being able to search for them) is important to your workflow, please give the topic a vote.
im still struggling to parse out constraints and autolayout quickly. Yall tucked away important things like hug/filled/left+right/etc. Would love it you brought these things again to the surface more clearly.
I’m still getting to grips with the new UI, but the most glaring barrier to my adoption is that the UI text and icons are far too small. My eyesight is not as sharp as it used to be, so it would be extremely helpful if the UI elements were enlarged and an option to adjust the size at the user level was provided.
I use the Mac app (so that I can hide/show Figma independently of the web browser), and I work on a 27" Mac Studio monitor. Clearly, the UI was not tested with these variables in mind, as I can barely read the interface (see attached).
Please fix it. In the meantime, I’ll return to the old UI, which is still on the small side for my liking, but at least I know where everything is.
Noticed an issue recently…
- Borders and dividers are all the same/similar color
- All of the different surfaces in both the left and right panels have the same exact same bg color.
As a result of the above, there is very little (if any) visual hierarchy within the UI itself to provide any visual affordance.
Left Panel:

Thicker draggable dividers
One easy way to remedy part of the problem is to make draggable dividers thicker than all other borders/lines. This has multiple benefits:
- Making them thicker provides a better visual affordance that they can be dragged, eliminating confusion with nearby borders that aren’t resizable.
- Making them thicker also makes it so much easier to interact with. Small lines are horrible for accessibility if you don’t have 1000% cursor precision at all times.
The right side panel automatically pops up when an item is clicked on, which is good if you are editing that item. However, many times I might be moving an item or commenting on an item and the item or comment gets covered up by the right panel. When this happens I have to stop my progress and move the page so the item doesn’t get covered up by that panel.
The new UI is so much off, starting with the prioritization of the most-used features and ending with its clutter. Of course, naturally, there’s some initial resistance to such radical changes, but the real issue is that some of these changes are hard to justify. Especially, considering there are many small things those are waiting for improvements for years—but remaining ignored for some reason.
