Hi Figma Team,
Hope you’re doing well. Our team has run into a bit of an issue, and we’re hoping you can help us out.
It looks like our team plan somehow switched from the Free plan to the Education plan. We’re seeing messages like “Your Education plan has expired” and “This team is for Education users only. New users will be required to verify their Education status.” However, we never opted for the Education plan. The Free plan works perfectly for us, and all our accounts are just regular accounts with no ties to any education setup.
Here are our main questions:
- How did this change happen?
- How can we switch our team back to the Free plan?
- What can we do to prevent this from happening again?
Thanks a lot for your help!
Hey @kim.guan, thank you for reaching out!
1. How did this change happen?
I can only assume that the user who has created the team is on the education plan. The Education plan is team-specific, so the user can invite students, educators, and other collaborators to their team at any time.
New team members have seven days to verify their email address and education status. After seven days, Figma will restrict their access to the team and they will need to manually verify their education status.
2. How can we switch our team back to the Free plan?
To switch the team from a education team back to the starter plan team please contact our support team via this form. They’ll be able to do it manually for you.
3. What can we do to prevent this from happening again?
Can you please check if the user who is on a education plan has created the team? If so this can be prevent by only creating a team from a starter plan account.
Thank you,
Gayani
Hi Gayani,
Thanks for the response!
Just to clarify, if a team is created by a user on the Education plan, then the team is classified as an Education team and all members need to verify their education status.
However, if a team is created by a user on the Free plan, and then an Education plan user is invited to join, does the team’s status remain as Free? In other words, will the team be unaffected even if the Education plan user’s status expires?
I want to ensure that our team remains on the Free plan regardless of the education status of any invited members.
Thank you for your assistance!
Best,
Kim Guan
Hey @kim.guan! No worries, happy to help!
Subscriptions/plans are tied to Teams and not individual accounts, so your first statement is correct “if a team is created by a user on the Education plan, then the team is classified as an Education team and all members need to verify their education status”
For your second question, an education plan user can collaborate on a Starter Team, but the starter user’s team will be maxed at 3 Editors (the owner + 2 editors) for the team.
Please let me know if this clears your question, happy to help out further.
