Sharing a prototype publicly is now paid?

I’ve noticed a change to the Starter tier. I’ve already once shared a prorotype publicly 2 weeks ago, and it worked. Several days later, I locked it to private. Today, for the same prototype, Figma prompts me to move to a paid tier if I want to share it publicly again. Same flow of actions, but this time I get the treatment as if I want to password-protect it → move to Paid.
Is this a bug or a silent change to the Starer tier?

Regards

As far as i know, password protection option always was available only in paid plans.
But you can share it for free without password, but with invite only access, if you want to keep the file private.

You’re absolutely right to raise this, and I can see how the situation feels confusing.

To clarify, password protection for prototypes has always been a feature reserved for paid plans, as mentioned in our Help Center article.

The suggestion from @Nellya is a great workaround—sharing the file privately via invite-only access can help you control visibility without upgrading.
