I’ve noticed uncomfortable lags when I share my screen via MS Teams and present something in Figma Desktop. It feels like fps drops drastically - from 60 to around 15-20. Mouse hover feedbacks with a noticeable delay. These lags I started notice after updating to macOS Sequoia.
My setup:
Macbook Pro 2021 M1 Pro with 32GB RAM, macOS Sequoia 15.0
External monitor HP Z27 connected via usb-c thunderbolt
Figma Desktop 124.4.7
MS Teams for mac Version 24244.507.3125.3475
I started investigating to identify the root cause and so far I figured out the next:
The issue is only with Figma Desktop and MS Teams mac app. If I use Figma in browser or MS Teams in browser, everything is smooth.
The issue is more noticeable with UI3. When I switch back to previous UI, it works much smoother, however not perfect and smooth as without sharing.
When I share the internal Macbook screen the issue is less to not noticeable. At least there is a difference. I tried different thunderbolt cables, no differences.
I tried other screen sharing apps like Zoom, no issue with using zoom app and share the screen.
I tried the Miro mac app as it is similar, no issue with it. When I share my screen, Miro works the same as without sharing.
Also it seems like the larger the file the more laggy it is. But again, only when sharing. As soon as I stop sharing, it scrolls/moves perfectly smooth.
Hey @Oleh_Ulasyuk, thanks for flagging this and sorry for the trouble it has caused!
Are you able to share example files where this occurs with us? If so, please send over a screen recording or provide URL links.
Does this happen to other collaborators, or are you the only one affected?
Can you please try clearing your desktop app’s cache to see if that helps?
Here’s how to clear the desktop app cache on a Mac:
Quit the Figma desktop app
Open Terminal.app and enter the following command:
rm -rf “$HOME/Library/Application Support/Figma/”{Desktop,DesktopProfile}
Try opening the desktop app again
Lastly, can you check your activity monitor CPU usage and see if there are any processes using a large amount of CPU? Try quitting and restarting those processes or close out of any application that might be running in the background.
Hey @dvaliao, thanks for you response. I’ve cleared he cache a couple of times - no luck. Unfortunately, I can’t share my working files or screen recordings.
However I tested with Activity monitor opened.
So when not sharing:
WindowServer while moving dragging in Figma goes up to 80%
Figma Helper 20-40% Processes when not sharing
When start sharing:
WindowServer goes over 100%, like about 130%
Figma Helper goes up to 85% Processes when sharing
The team took a look, and they believe that this issue is likely an MS Teams related issue.
We made an update to UI3 today, and everyone should now have fixed panels. The floating panels seemed to be related to a lot of recent performance issues in the desktop app.
Please try using the desktop app again, and let us know if anything has improved. If not, since you expressed that things work better using the browser and UI2, we encourage you to continue using those options as a workaround.
