How can I add a thingy to an instance (to get that thingy to beCOME part of the instance)?

You can’t.

You don’t need to remove the image and text, you can simply edit them. To edit the text, just double click it or press Enter when it’s selected. To change the image, check out this thread: Figma Basics - How to override image in instance - #4 by Gleb
