Hi,
I would like to have “Templates” or something equivalent to Sketch “Appearance”. So that I can then place my components in the template.
Use case:
For example having a modal box (with fill, border, drop shadow etc.) + auto layout and spacing.
Only workaround I know is building “slots” but it feels wrong and seems more like a hack and is not very flexible as well.
Or does anyone know another solution?
Cheers

For your example we indeed use the slots method, although you are right that this is more of a workaround. We also provide template components with or without pre-nested components and pre-applied variables, our designers can detache and edit. Yeah, they are detached then but it still saves them time to create screen designs and we are still able to do changes on the global, variables level.

Hey guys,
Let’s be real. The main spectrum of work with UI, whether it’s an app, or a website, is displaying data or content (such as feed, lists, posts, comments, etc).
We can do a component of a post card, for example. Then duplicate instances, and wrap that in an auto layout.
It would be cool to have a repeater that shows right up after you’ve activated the auto-layout, where you can specify how many times to repeat the instance (component) and bind data to it.

My suggestion for Figma is to add a “slot” functionality to components.
This would allow designers to create more flexible and customizable components, by adding empty slots or placeholders within a component. Users could then insert their own content or elements into these slots, without having to ungroup or modify the component itself.
This functionality would save time and increase efficiency for designers, while also promoting a more consistent design system across a project or organizatio…
